Executive Officer - Ghylène Palmer

As Executive Officer, Ghylène brings a wealth of leadership experience from the community sector and local government and academic libraries to Girl Guides Western Australia. As a seasoned Board Director, she currently serves on the Linkwest Board, the peak body for Neighbourhood Centres and Community Resource Centres across WA. Additionally, she chairs the Joondalup Lotteries House Management Committee. Having served on the GGWA Board for two years and the GGA Board for one year, Ghylène is deeply invested in the mission and vision of the organisation.

Known for her transformational leadership style, Ghylène inspires and motivates those around her to achieve their full potential. She is dedicated to fostering an environment of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement. Ghylène is responsible for delivering the overall strategic direction of the organisation and ensuring that all areas align with each other and with the organisation’s goals and values. She works closely with the State Commissioner to engage with external stakeholders, and the community to build relationships and secure support for the organisation.

Ghylène’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, French, Italian and Japanese, a Graduate Diploma in Information Science and a Master of Business Administration. These qualifications, combined with her extensive experience, equip her with a diverse skill set that she passionately applies to her role at Girl Guides Western Australia.

Operations Manager - Shari Taukiri

Shari, GGWA’s Operations Manager, works three days a week to oversee the upkeep and management of all GGWA assets. Working closely with volunteers, she manages the maintenance of GGWA’s facilities, liaises with service providers and vendors to secure necessary services and supplies. Additionally, she creates and refines procedures to streamline operations, manages our resources and ensures all daily activities run smoothly and comply with safety regulations and policies.

With a background in asset management gained within State Government and retirement villages across both for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, Shari holds a Postgraduate Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, along with a Bachelor of Business Studies majoring in Accounting.

Beyond her professional career, she has served as both State President and State Treasurer of the Cake Decorators Association of Western Australia, a not-for-profit incorporated organisation with branches and members across the state.

Shari is passionate about Girl Guides and the enriching learning opportunities the organisation provides, having gained valuable experiences and life skills as a Brownie, Guide, Ranger, and Leader.

Administration Officer - Erin Broom

As Administration Officer 3 days a week, Erin provides general overall support to the team assisting with various administrative tasks as needed, including website edits, managing correspondence, leads our privacy training and awareness programs for staff to ensure we adhere to privacy laws and regulations, collaborates with IT to ensure data security and regularly audits our ongoing privacy practices to ensure ongoing compliance.

With a background in nursing and administration Erin has worn several hats during her time in the Girl Guides Western Australia office, beginning at reception and later transitioning into her current role as Administration Officer.

Erin also has a rich history in Guiding, earning both her BP and Queen’s Guide awards as a Youth Member and then progressing on to become a Unit Leader.

Membership Coordinator - Vicki Shiel

Vicki is the Membership Coordinator and Child Safe Child Friendly Officer, playing a key role in connecting youth with local Units and ensuring a smooth, supportive membership experience. She works closely with parents to help identify the most suitable Unit for their child, guiding them through the registration process and assisting with the membership database. Vicki also follows up after trial sessions to ensure each girl has a positive experience and feels welcome. Vicki also supports volunteers with membership-related information, ensuring they have the assistance they need to manage their units effectively.

She also works closely with the State Team to support Units that are at risk and may need additional assistance, helping them access the resources and guidance required to thrive

In her CSCF role, Vicki oversees compliance to ensure the organisation is consistently providing a Child Safe, Child Friendly environment.

Beyond her membership responsibilities, Vicki manages the administration of both Youth and Adult Awards, collaborating with volunteers and girls to provide the support they need to achieve their goals. She is also responsible for preparing and submitting reports to the Department of Communities and GGA, as well as delivering valuable membership insights and reporting to the Board for growth.

With nearly eight years at Girl Guides WA Vicki began her journey on reception and has grown into a vital member of the team. Her deep understanding of GGWA’s administrative processes, combined with her passion for youth engagement and child safety, make her an invaluable asset to the organisation.

Project Coordinator - Jordyn Carter

As a part-time Project Coordinator, Jordyn manages the implementation and integration of new or enhanced platforms, processes and initiatives. Her role involves identifying areas for improvement and employing strategies to strengthen the volunteer journey. Jordyn oversees many facets of the Adult Volunteer space including the Member Portal, Girl Guides Learning online learning system, Adult and Unit compliance, and Volunteer Learning & Development.

Jordyn liaises heavily with our Volunteers, other State Girl Guiding Organisations, and Girl Guides Australia to ensure a collaborative approach to Guiding is undertaken, allowing WA to be abreast of any improvements and advancements as they arise.

As a Guide in her younger years and a committee member and volunteer to numerous organisations, Jordyn brings a wealth of hands-on experience from the not-for-profit and disability support sectors.

Jordyn’s experience is accompanied by key roles in various community and youth organisations, small business ownership, and a Bachelor of Commerce specialising in Business Project Management with Distinction.

Jordyn is passionate about improving the experience for our dedicated volunteers and simplifying systems so they can do what they love most…empowering Girls and Young Women to become the Leaders of tomorrow.

Bookkeeper - Dianne Smith

As a part-time Bookkeeper, Di oversees and performs the daily financial operations of Girl Guides. Her responsibilities include managing invoices, handling both accounts payable and receivable, tracking sales and membership payments, reconciling bank statements, acquitting grant budgets, maintaining accurate payroll administration, maintaining accurate financial records and provide financial support and guidance to volunteers managing unit level funds. She also undertakes audit preparation and estimates income and expenditure for budget preparation.

With a passion for precision and a love of numbers, Di brings over 5 years of hands-on bookkeeping experience to small businesses seeking clarity and control over their finances. She specialises in transforming financial chaos into clean, understandable records.

Accounts Officer - Tracey Slattery

As a part-time unit accounts officer, Tracey plays a vital role in managing 150+ Unit bank accounts, cash books, and asset registers, ensuring financial accuracy and transparency. She also supports the organisation as a welcoming presence on the reception desk, greeting our visitors, responding to phone enquiries, restocking our shelves ensuring our shop and Guide House are clean, organised for our members and volunteers. Tracey looks after the incoming and outgoing mail and shop orders, ensuring that all correspondence and transactions are handled efficiently.

Beyond her office duties, Tracey is deeply involved in guiding as a Unit Leader in Armadale and a Region Manager. Her hands-on experience gives her a strong understanding of the needs and challenges faced by Units, making her a trusted resource for volunteers as she can offer practical information and solutions based on her extensive experience.

A fast fact is that Tracey was once a dental nurse for over 20 years with Dental Health Services. Tracey’s background in dental nursing not only highlights her versatility but also underscores her dedication to serving the community in various capacities. Her diverse experiences make her a well-rounded and trusted resource for both volunteers and staff at Girl Guides Western Australia.

Volunteer Engagement Officer - Erin G-C

As the Volunteer Engagement Officer, Erin G-C plays a key role in supporting and empowering our volunteer community. She is responsible for managing volunteer onboarding, ensuring compliance requirements are met, delivering volunteer information presentations, setting up events in our database, and helping to create and maintain our online forms to streamline processes for volunteers and staff.

Erin began her journey with Girl Guides WA in a reception role and, through her passion and dedication, has grown into her current position. She has now been part of the organisation for almost two years.

A proud member of Girl Guides for over 20 years, Erin currently runs a Guide Unit and sits on the Olave Committee. She hopes to use her lifelong Guiding experience to support and inspire both new and long-time volunteers. Beyond Girl Guides, she also organises and runs numerous church camps and events throughout the year.

Volunteering is a cornerstone of Erin’s life, and she hopes to encourage others to get involved and experience the same sense of fulfilment, growth, and community that volunteering has given her.

Events and Compliance Officer - Natalie Hewitt

As a part-time Events and Compliance Officer, Natalie assists with the planning and organising of State Events, as well as helping volunteers to coordinate our participation in various public facing events. Natalie also assists with the Activity/Camp application process, checking attendee compliance and risk management documentation.

To this role, Natalie brings a wealth of Guiding knowledge, as well as Event Management and Project Management knowledge. In her spare time, Natalie wears many volunteering hats within Girl Guides Western Australia, including Unit Leader, Olave Committee Member and Youth Program Team Leader.

Natalie’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Commerce and a Diploma of Leadership and Management. Natalie was also the recipient of the 2022 ECU Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) Undergraduate Prize and the 2024 ECU Rosalie Heaney Award for Excellence in Event Management and holds her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Grants and Fundraising Officer - Emma Humphreys

As a Grants and Fundraising Officer 2 days a week, Emma researches, writes, submits and acquits Girl Guides Western Australia’s grant applications, along with developing relationships with stakeholders and creating partnerships with supporters. She finds her work meaningful and rewarding, as it gives her the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of girls and young women in Western Australia.

Emma also has an extensive career in the Arts, having been the driving force behind over fifty projects in the past three decades. Her work has toured Australia and the world, and she is a recipient of the Bill Warnock Award for Screenwriting. Emma is also a film maker, with her films having screened as Official Selections at festivals such as the Sydney Film Festival and Chicago International Film Festival.

Communitcations and Marketing Coordinator - Clare Varcoe

As Communications and Marketing Coordinator, Clare manages internal and external communications, including the Bulletin to Adult Members, the Wagtale newsletter to all members, managing several of our social media accounts and online presence, website and other online platforms to ensure consistent and engaging content, ensuring our presence at relevant expos and events to promote GGWA, ensuring all volunteer events are placed in the events calendar for clear visibility and coordination, designing and

coordinating the creation of print materials, and creating brand recognition. Clare works closely with our volunteers to ensure cohesive communication and marketing efforts.

With nearly 17 years of Guiding experience, Clare brings a deep, lived understanding of Guiding to everything she does. Her professional background spans communications, marketing, public relations, content creation, and SEO — skills she uses to amplify the organisation’s voice and impact. As a dedicated volunteer, she also serves as a Unit Leader and an active member of the Olave Committee.

Clare holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Media Communications, with majors in writing and journalism. She has worked as a writer and sub-editor for several independent news outlets and digital platforms and has hands-on experience in the non-profit sector.
