Guides Get Hiking

Girl Guides WA are thrilled to launch “Guides Get Hiking” thanks to support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. This 12-month project will help Guides of all ages get outdoors and experience the fantastic trails in our State.

Whether it’s a peaceful stroll through the bush, a personal challenge rewarded with spectacular views, or an adventurous multi-day expedition – we’ll be creating opportunities for both our Guides, Olaves and Leaders to build their experience, skills, and confidence for hiking activities.

Trail Kits

Take your Guide Unit or Olave Peer Group out for a hike and we will help with the planning and paperwork!  We've got a selection of packs for some of our favourite hiking trails around Perth as well as popular campsites. The Trail Packs will give you ideas on where to go, a head start on all the logistics, and hints about what paperwork is needed (including example risk assessments for the specific trail!)

Save the Date for:

  • Lesmurdie Falls Short Hike: 21 August, All ages
  • Bibbulmun Track Day Hike: 24 October
  • Whiteman Park Short Hike: November, All ages
  • Bibbulmun Track Expedition: 2022

Hiking Skills Weekend

Leaders, Olaves, and 14+ Guides are invited to a fun and interactive training weekend where we’ll be learning by doing, and making the most of the outdoors!  You’ll learn hints, tips, and techniques that you need to build your confidence and skills in running hiking activities or enjoying the trail yourself, with a program including navigation, equipment, safety and risk, food, and event planning. Registration for this event is now closed.

Remote Area First Aid

Upgrade your first aid skills with training specifically designed for situations where help might be a little further away.  This training is perfect for anyone hoping to earn an expedition qualification or head out on more adventurous or overnight hikes.

We’re expecting to hold this training in January 2022.  More details coming soon.

Expedition Qualifications

If you’re thinking about getting your Conduct-n-Expedition module, or Trefoil 3 Camping – Expeditions, now is the time!  By attending the Hiking Skills Weekend and Remote Area First Aid Training, you’ll be halfway there - you just need to organise a qualification expedition.  We will be there to help you out, and if you run it before June 2022 you’ll be eligible for a mini-grant to help cover the costs for your hiking buddies!
