Adult Volunteers

Guiding is run by volunteers! We welcome anyone who would like to become a volunteer. If you can offer enthusiasm and commitment along with your skills and experience, we will provide you with all the training you might need! There are many different roles that members of the community, including parents and guardians of youth members, are able to do. All the roles listed below, except Unit Leaders, are open to men as well as women. However you choose to help, you will make an important contribution to the lives of girls and young women who are members of Girl Guides Western Australia, and to the wider community.

Volunteer Roles

  Unit Leader

Our amazing Unit Leaders work with youth members weekly during school term to deliver the Australian Girl Guide Program and act as role models for our wonderful girls. You do not need any prior Guiding experience and you can choose which age group you prefer to work with. We offer full training and a Leadership Development Program.   Occasional Helper

Many Units have a roster, where a group of Adult Volunteers take it in turn to help at a Unit Meeting. Just once or twice a term, it is your chance to be included in a wide range of games and activities enjoyed by all the girls, and to make your contribution.

  Administration
It can be useful for Unit Leaders to have a Adult Volunteer to help with the general administration of the Unit. This could include a range of jobs including, producing Unit letters, researching booking details for the Units next trip, or even providing secretarial support at Unit Meetings.

  Cash Books
If you are a whiz with figures, you could play a vital role in helping your local Guide Unit with accounts. You could also help the Unit in gaining funds from Community Grants and other fund-raising outlets.

  Specialist Skills

You may have a specialist skill that you would like to share with your local Girl Guide Unit. Perhaps you have a qualification in an outdoor activity such as canoeing, or a love of arts and crafts?

  Transport
Do you have a licence to drive a mini bus or bus, or any other form of transport? Your help with transporting girls and equipment, means girls can experience more exciting activities in different places - from canoeing to a camping trip.

  Property Maintenance
Many Units own their own property, or share with other voluntary organisations. Could your skills help in the upkeep of a property, keeping it safe for girls and accessible for Guiding activities?

  Fundraising
If you have a flair for raising funds, your skills could be put to good use. What's more any money raised creates greater opportunities for all the girls and young women in Girl Guides.

  Trips and Camps
As a safety priority, Girl Guides Western Australia insists on certain adult-to-girl ratios - especially for activities away from the Units normal meeting place. Whether it is a trip to Adventure World or a Unit camp, your assistance could be invaluable.

  Support Group

Girl Guides Western Australia recognises that not everyone is able to give time to Guiding on a regular basis. That most definitely does not mean that you are unable to volunteer. If you would like to show your support to Girl Guides Western Australia through volunteering please contact us via the adult enquiry form or contact us to talk about what suits you.
