Youth Advisory Council

What is the Girl Guides WA Youth Advisory Council?

The Youth Advisory Council is an exciting opportunity for Guides aged 13 to 21 years to represent their peers and have their say about the future of Guides at a State level.
The council gives girls the opportunity to develop their advocacy skills in a fun and friendly environment, help give ideas and plan events, and contribute to decision-making processes in Guiding.

By being part of the council, girls:

  • Are empowered to speak out, and make a difference for Guides;
  • Are supported to become responsible, confident advocates; and
  • Can make sure Girl Guides WA is girl-led.

The Youth Advisory Council is comprised of:

  • A number of Guides aged 13–21 years old.
  • 4 Youth Advisory Council Mentors:
  • State Youth Program Manager

What does the Girl Guides WA Youth Advisory Council do?

The Youth Advisory Council will report to the Youth Program Manager, and will operate in two ways:

  1. As an advisory council, members will consider questions and ideas put to them by the State Program Committee (and other relevant and appropriate personnel). The council will provide girls’ input and feedback, as required, to inform and direct solutions.
  2. As a representative group, the Youth Advisory Council will consider their, and their peers’ ideas and experiences to make recommendations to the State Program Committee and other relevant personnel about current and future Guiding. This may include consulting with peers and helping to plan events.

The Youth Advisory Council members may be encouraged to take on particular roles such as Chairperson, Secretary, Social Media, and Events.

What is the time commitment?

  • The Youth Advisory Council is a 12-month minimum commitment. Each representative will sit on the Panel from January to December in a calendar year, with the ability to extend their position.
  • Meetings will be held monthly at Guide House however we asks members that they attend a minimal of 4 meetings each year. These may be face to face or via teleconference / Skype.
  • The full details will be advised to successful applicants.
  • Representatives will also be encouraged to commit to different roles on the Panel, such as Chairperson, Secretary, Social Media, and Events. These roles require a level of responsibility and commitment.
